Indication

Angina is characterized by chest pain that occurs when the heart doesn't receive an adequate supply of oxygen. Pharmacology

Trimetazidine shifts heart metabolism to aerobic glycolysis, restoring cell energy balance, and inhibiting acidosis and free radicals.

Dosage & Administration of Trimet MR Tablet

Adult Dose: Oral angina pectoris: 40-60 mg daily in divided doses. Modified-release tablet: 35 mg twice daily.

Renal Dose: Adjust dose in renal impairment. Contraindicated in severe impairment.

Take Trimet MR regularly as advised by your doctor, with or without food, at a fixed time. Consistency is crucial, even if you feel well. Stopping it might cause chest pain to return. Lifestyle changes can support heart health.

Interaction

Drug-Drug Interactions: Trimet MR Tablet has interactions with several other drugs. Caution is advised when using it in conjunction with sedatives or hypnotics (such as buspirone), potent painkillers, specific allergy medications (like chlorphenamine), certain antidepressants (fluoxetine and lithium), medications to lower blood pressure (methyldopa), drugs for Parkinson's disease treatment (levodopa, pramipexole, ropinirole), and medicines for epilepsy (phenobarbital, carbamazepine, phenytoin, rifampicin, primidone, oxcarbazepine, ethosuximide, valproate).

Drug-Food Interactions: Refrain from consuming alcoholic beverages alongside Trimet MR Tablet. The combination might result in unpleasant side effects.

Drug-Disease Interactions: Trimet MR Tablet is not suitable for patients with active liver disease, Parkinson's disease, or kidney impairment. Use caution in these cases.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to Trimetazidine Dihydrochloride.

Pregnancy & Lactation

The use of Trimetazidine in pregnant women lacks sufficient information. Animal studies haven't revealed direct or indirect harmful effects in terms of reproductive toxicity. However, as a precautionary measure, it's advisable to avoid using Trimetazidine during pregnancy. Whether Trimetazidine is excreted in human breast milk remains uncertain. The potential risk to newborns/infants cannot be ruled out. Consequently, Trimetazidine should not be used during breastfeeding.

• Be aware that Trimet MR Tablet might exacerbate Parkinson's disease symptoms, a brain disorder impacting movement. Therefore, let your doctor know if you have Parkinson's disease and are using Trimet MR Tablet.
• Consider adopting a Mediterranean-style diet featuring olive oil, fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains, fish, and limited red meat and dairy. As per the American Heart Association, it's recommended that daily sodium intake, mainly from table salt, should not surpass 2,300 mg. Reducing the heart's workload enhances its ability to pump blood and restore normal function.
• While Trimet MR Tablet can prevent new angina attacks, it doesn't prevent acute attacks.
• Be mindful of potential drug interactions, as well as interactions with food and certain medical conditions.
